TEND CAMERAS

tend cameras

Good Design Award Winner

Volume Studios helped Tend with the development of this camera, from the 1st concept sketch to refining every detail for production.  The teams worked together closely to develop the innovative flex hinge that gives the camera a full range of motion, while retaining a seamless, fluid form.

Under its playful exterior, the  Flexi Cam is designed to tend to what matters most, featuring a built-in motion sensor that can be enabled to trigger the system to automatically begin recording when movement is detected.  The Flexi Cam can then instantly send an automatic alert to users via the Tend mobile app for iOS and Android. Using the app, users can review captured footage and get a live view of what the Flexi Cam sees in real time.

one flexible camera

To make sure your Flexi Cam is always looking in the right direction, it features an innovative bendable adjustment feature in the base.  Simply tilt the camera in any direction and it holds its position, whether it’s leaning back, forward, or to the side. The base also includes a wall-mount feature so your Flexi Cam can be placed anywhere.

This fun and friendly HD Wi-Fi camera combines crystal-clear HD live video streaming with night-vision technology and two-way audio communication to stay connected to the people, places and pets that matter while you’re away.
The Flexi Cam also has fun voice features.  With the push of a button, activate fun Minion sounds like “hey boss”, “banana”, and so much more!

Each Flexi Cam comes with 24 hours of free secure cloud storage on the Tend platform, allowing users to review recorded footage from any mobile device.

the making of a minion

Below is a (very) brief overview of the product development process, from the very first "aha!" thumbnail sketch to the final surfacing CAD and CMF definition.

another galaxy

After its initial success, Tend invited our team to expand on a concept that we had hit on while developing the Minion CAM.  This concept was actively in development with Tend before they were purchased by Chamberlain.

The concept was a camera module that would be able to fit into different character "skins".  These skins would change the types of interaction the user would have with the camera in terms of voices, gesture recognition, sound effects, etc.

The characters shown here are a Funko-inspired Kylo Ren and a bust of K-2SO, but the concept could potentially work with a whole world of characters.
